Disassembly and Reassembly of Uberti Lightning Rifle

This is a simple, but mechanically tricky firearm with built in quirks like loading with bolt/slide open, no closed bolt lock and ability to “slam fire”(this is not recommended though)
The most important thing to remember is that take down is easy, but reassembly is NOT.
To take apart the rifle –
First check that the rifle is not loaded. Take out the tang screw. Draw off the butt stock. Take out the magazine screw at the front end and remove the magazine. Take out the two side screws, cock the piece and draw the slide about halfway to the rear and withdraw the trigger plate. Slide the bolt clear back, insert a punch in the small hole on the left hand side, and push out the locking brace pin, and slide out the bolt. The other parts can be removed without special directions.
To reassemble the rifle –
Replace the parts in the reverse order from that given for taking the rifle apart.(This is from the USFA manual.)
Easy ?...No....
1. Take out tang screw and draw off buttstock.
2. Loosen the mag retaining screw and remove mag tube, spring and follower.
3. Remove left and right trigger plate side screws, pull bolt back and remove trigger plate by moving assembly forward and down.
4. Parts on trigger plate are now exposed for cleaning or work.
5. Slide bolt rearward as far to expose locking brace pin in hole.
6. **step 6 is optional in my view unless you want to remove the bolt.
7. Drive out pin from small hole side with a pin punch being careful to not lose spring on brace.
Now for the tricky part, reassembly:
8. Reassemble any parts removed from trigger plate.
9. Reassemble brace pin on brace, if removed.(again, removal not advised)
10. ALIGN brace tang (down from bolt) into the small square channel of the slide pull AS the receiver and trigger plate are mated together.
11. Rplace side screws into the trigger plate and ensure the slide action and bolt are operational.
12. Replace mag tube, spring and follower into rifle, align the tube under the barrel before tightening then replace butt stock and pin. DONE !
